V#76 EDITION ~ August 3, 2026

When you sit down to write an email, create content or tell a story about your business... where do you start?

Most of us were taught to start at the beginning. Set the scene. Give context. Build up to the good stuff.

But here's what I've noticed: the best stories don't start at the beginning. They start where people lean in.

This week, we're diving into two ideas that might change how you think about your business.

First, we're talking about storytelling. Specifically, why your best stories might be starting in the wrong place—and how fixing that one thing can transform your engagement.

Then, we're looking at something nobody warns you about when you start a business. The slow, sneaky way your operations get more complicated over time. Not because you're doing anything wrong. Just... one tool at a time.

When we talk in person, we jump straight to the interesting part. But when we write, we feel the need to explain everything first. Learn why starting in the middle might be the key to better engagement.

WHAT'S ON THE RADAR

  • Agentic AI Workflows — AI now runs multi-step business processes autonomously, not just single tasks. Small teams can operate like larger competitors.

Newsletter Recommendation Networks — Cross-promoting with other newsletters drives 2.75x faster growth. 20-30% of new subscribers now come from recommendations, not ads.

AI Brand Memory Systems — New tools learn your voice and generate content that sounds like you. The "AI sounds robotic" problem is fading fast.

The Time Economy Divide — Entrepreneurs who buy back time with systems are outpacing those who can't. Time is becoming the scarcest resource in business.
Most entrepreneurs didn't intentionally create a complicated business. It happened little by little. One new tool, then another, then another. Learn how to spot the hidden costs and simplify your business.

Final Thoughts

So here's what I'm sitting with this week.

Every piece of content you create is an asset. Every story you tell either builds trust or wastes attention. Every tool you add either removes friction or creates more of it.

The entrepreneurs I see winning aren't the ones with the most software or the longest stories.

They're the ones who made things simple enough that they could focus on what actually matters.

Serving their people. Creating value. Building something real.

Everything else is just well... extra.

If you read one thing this week, try the exercise. Write down every tool, every login, every platform your customers visit.

Then ask yourself: If I were starting today, would I build it this way?

You might be surprised by the answer.

Until Next week...

xo,
Lane

P.S. — Next week, we're diving into some trends that are reshaping how entrepreneurs work. Agentic AI, newsletter growth strategies and why "time economy" is about to become your new favorite phrase. Stay tuned.
